What RainyDay.ie collects about you (very little), why, how long it's kept, and your rights under GDPR, including complaining to the Data Protection Commission.

The short version
RainyDay.ie doesn't track you. There are no analytics tools, no advertising networks, no newsletter and no tracking cookies. Fonts and images load from this site's own server, so visiting a page doesn't tell any other company you were here.
The only personal information we handle is what you choose to send through the contact form, plus the basic technical logs every web server keeps.
Who is responsible for your data
RainyDay.ie is written and edited by James Dunne, who is responsible for how personal data is handled on this site. For anything to do with your data, email contact@rainyday.ie.
When you send us a message
The contact form asks for your name, your email address, a topic and your message. It also records which page you sent it from.
- How it's handled. The form sends your message by email to contact@rainyday.ie. It isn't saved in the website's database.
- Why. So we can read your message and reply to it. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering people who get in touch, and taking steps you've asked us to take.
- How long it's kept. Messages stay in our mailbox for as long as we need them to deal with what you've raised, and are normally deleted within 12 months. If a message leads to a correction on the site, we may keep it longer as a record of the change.
- Spam protection. To stop the form being flooded, the site keeps a scrambled, one-way version of your IP address for one hour, which can't be turned back into the address. It's used only to limit how many messages one visitor can send in that hour.
We'll never add you to a mailing list or use your email for anything other than replying.
When you visit a page
Like every website, ours runs on a web server that keeps short-lived technical logs: your IP address, your browser type, the page you asked for and the time.
Our hosting provider uses these logs to keep the site secure and working, and they're deleted on a rolling basis.
The site doesn't set cookies for ordinary visitors. The only cookies it uses are the ones WordPress sets when the site's editor logs in to make changes.
When you click a product link
Product links on RainyDay.ie go through a short redirect on this site and then on to the retailer, usually Amazon.ie. We don't record who clicks them.
Once you arrive at the retailer, its own privacy policy applies. Amazon sets cookies to recognise that you came from our site, which is how it works out any commission we earn.
You'll find Amazon's privacy notice linked at the bottom of every Amazon.ie page. Our affiliate disclosure explains how the commission works.
Links to public bodies such as the HSE or the RTB are ordinary links. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
Who else sees your data
We don't sell, rent or share your personal data for marketing. The only other parties involved are the companies that provide the services the site runs on:
- Our hosting provider, which stores the website and its server logs.
- Our email provider, which receives and stores messages sent to contact@rainyday.ie.
Both act on our instructions and are bound to protect your data. If either processes data outside the European Economic Area, the transfer is covered by the safeguards GDPR requires, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
Under GDPR you can ask us to:
- show you what personal data we hold about you, and give you a copy;
- correct anything that's wrong;
- delete your data, for example an old message you sent;
- stop or limit how we use it, or object to it being used at all.
To use any of these rights, email contact@rainyday.ie. We'll reply within one month, and there's no charge.
Making a complaint
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Commission, the regulator for data protection in Ireland.
Children
RainyDay.ie is written for adults dealing with their homes. We don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you think a child has sent us their details, contact us and we'll delete them.
Changes to this policy
If the way the site handles data changes, for example if we ever add analytics, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
